For the Days Nobody Sees

The Weight They Carry In Silence

There are days nobody sees.

No calls. No jobs lined up. No answers.

Just you sitting there, running numbers in your head, wondering how it all holds together.

You don’t say it out loud, but it’s there.

Pressure.

Not the kind from the roof. The kind that sits in your chest.

Bills don’t wait. People are counting on you. And you’re supposed to have it figured out.

But some days, you don’t.

Some days you’re just trying to hold it together.

And that’s where most men break. Not because they’re weak. Because they carry everything alone.

But here’s the truth most won’t say.

You were never meant to carry it all by yourself.

God sees the days nobody else does. The quiet days. The heavy days. The days where you keep showing up even when nothing is coming in.

That matters.

You don’t quit on those days. You don’t walk away.

You stay steady.

You take the next step. You do the next right thing.

And you trust that even when nothing is moving, something is still being built.

This trade moves fast. Between the calls, the jobs, the weather, the crews, and the customers, it’s easy to leave out the most important tool you can carry: the Word of God.

“God is your friend in high places. No matter what you're facing, you're not alone.”
- Nelson Alvarado

Each day includes a scripture, a short devotion that connects God's Word to real roofing life, and a prayer. Read it in the truck. At the supply house. Before the crew shows up.

Day 1 - Read It Yourself

Day 1 of 365 · Month 1
Peace Before the Day Starts
Scripture
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”
Psalm 23:1

Every roofer knows this feeling. The jobs slow down. The phone does not ring. You start doing the math in your head: bills, payroll, materials, time. Silence can be louder than a storm.

This is where faith gets tested. Not when work is overflowing, but when it is not. God does not promise nonstop jobs. He promises provision. A shepherd does not always lead through green pastures. Sometimes He leads through waiting.

Waiting does not mean God forgot you. It means He is still guiding, even when you cannot see the next job yet. Do what you can control today. Show up ready. Stay honest. Stay prepared. Trust that provision often shows up right on time.

Prayer
Lord, when the phone is quiet and my mind is loud, remind me that You are my provider. Help me trust You today, not panic about tomorrow. Amen.

I started roofing at 16 years old. I also got married at 16, and from that age on, life taught me about responsibility, sacrifice, pressure, and hard work. I have worked for myself my entire life, and through the years God has blessed me with a beautiful wife of 42 years, three daughters, and eight grandchildren.

I have walked nearly every road there is in the roofing business. I have lived the highs and the lows, the victories and the failures, the pressure, the grind, the pride, and the pain. I know the business, the systems, the models, and what it takes to climb to the top. I have seen success on a level that many men spend their whole lives chasing.

But without Jesus, none of it satisfied my soul.

There was an old me, a man with old ways, a dark heart, and a life built on pride, survival, and self. That man is gone. Through Jesus Christ, that old life was buried, and God began to transform me from the inside out.

In 2022, during a season of deep brokenness, I came to the end of myself. I was tired. I was empty. I wanted to disappear from everything. The success, the recognition, the money, and the big accomplishments had no power to give me peace. At the end of the day, it all felt like ashes in my mouth.

That broken place became the place where I truly found God.

In 2022, I rededicated my life to Jesus Christ and chose to serve Him with all my heart. Out of that journey came The Roofer Devotional. I wrote this devotional from real experience, real pain, real lessons, and real grace. My desire is to help men who work in roofing, construction, the trades, business, or any hard road of life know that they do not have to carry the weight alone.

I learned the hard way what I now know for sure: peace, love, comfort, and purpose are not found in success. They are found in Jesus Christ.

My message is simple:

Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.

Life will not always be easy. The road will not always be smooth. But when you have Jesus in your truck, Jesus in your morning, Jesus in your home, and Jesus in your business, there is always hope, always help, and always a way forward.

He is Savior. He is Helper. He is Friend. And He will meet you in the lowest valleys and walk with you all the way to the highest places.
